Austin’s prominence as a center for new approaches to healthy communities is on the rise
This is thanks in part to the new Dell Medical School at UT Austin. Created in 2012 with the support of Travis County voters, Dell Medical is the first new medical school at a tier 1 university in nearly 50 years. And the health industry is taking notice.
More than 230+ companies employ more than 13,500 people in the region and more than a dozen innovation hubs within the Innovation District and across Central Texas provide resources to startup companies of all types.
Many large companies call Austin home, including: Dell, Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple, Cisco, IBM, Oracle, Whole Foods. They benefit from access to top talent, a business-friendly environment, and a convenient location in one of the fastest-growing markets in the U.S.
In 2017 Merck announced it will establish a significant global hub in Austin.
